It was an amazing adventure.”Hence the Bill and Ted analogy. “It was almost like connecting with my 13-year-old self again.” Hughes and Smiles spent six weeks on the road together last summer to shoot this food odyssey.“And we never once came to blows,” Smiles notes.“Although I did almost lose it once cooking leeks, of all things,” Hughes pipes in.
“Then Norman Hardie showed up with his wine and all was good.”Not that Hughes indulged in said wine.
He was responsible, jumping from group to group, making sure that the older kids didn’t lose a finger and that the youngest of the crew felt involved (they got to gut gourds and peel garlic).
But, we doubt he’ll be a helicopter parent — he did gift a group of older boys a completely burnt pumpkin to play with.
